TAMFT is very interested in helping our members get entry to insurance panels which is sometimes denied when a company does not know the qualification of LMFT's. The new vendorship law puts our licensure on an equal footing with other mental health disciplines in qualifying for third party reimbursement in insurance. An insurance company is not required to contract with LMFT's but we are approved mental health providers under the statute and can apply to be part of the insurance panel.

We suggest that if an LMFT is denied membership on an insurance panel, that he/she write the insurance company asking for re-consideration on the basis of trying to educate the company about LMFT qualifications.
