Suicide prevention requires more than a crisis protocol. Many individuals who experience chronic suicidality have histories of unresolved trauma, attachment disruptions, and nervous system dysregulation that traditional risk assessments often fail to fully address. This training offers a holistic and trauma-informed framework for understanding and responding to suicidality, integrating systemic, relational, and somatic perspectives.
Participants will explore how trauma shapes suicidal ideation, learn how attachment-informed care fosters relational safety, and gain tools to support clients using body-based awareness and presence. Designed for mental health professionals who want to move beyond symptom management, this training emphasizes attuned, embodied clinical work that respects the whole person—mind, body, and relational context.
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
Analyze the link between unresolved trauma and suicide risk, including how specific trauma responses (e.g., dissociation, shame, disrupted attachment) can obscure or amplify suicidal ideation.
Demonstrate how to use attachment-informed and systemic principles to enhance therapeutic alliance and create relational safety for clients experiencing suicidality.
Explore how somatic awareness and trauma-informed presence can be integrated into clinical work with suicidal clients to support regulation, connection, and safety throughout assessment and treatment.
Didactic lecture with visual slides (PowerPoint or equivalent)
Case examples and clinical vignettes
Group discussion and Q&A
Experiential learning activities (e.g., guided grounding practice, reflective prompts)
Integration of research-based evidence on trauma and somatic approaches
This annual conference for students, postgrads, supervisors and their employers. Is an in-person event you don't want to miss with all the latest updates on licensure and supervision as well as a chance to meet employers, internship sites, and potential supervisors.
Every year we meet individually with law makers and advocate for our profession. We need representation from as many districts as possible. This event usually occurs on a Tuesday or Wednesday in February or March. Please make plans to join us at the Capitol next year for Day on the Hill. Your presence is powerful!
